Swordfish, Salmon Burgers and Hamachi

Hey Y'all,

Happening Saturday

Are you thinking about spending $9.00 for a McDonald's Big Mac Full Meal Deal this weekend? Or maybe you have a plan for a Chick-Fil-A Deluxe meal for $9.75. Here's a better idea:

Stop by the Catch on Saturday between 11:00 and 3:00 for a grilled salmon burger (with lettuce/tomato/pickle just like Chick-Fil-A) and Honey Lemon Cole Slaw (better than fries) for $10.95. Save the money you spend on doctor's visits and high cholestrol meds and eat a delicious grilled salmon burger.

Feedback

I really get annoyed when every single time I call a business or buy something from a business, I get an email/text from them wanting me to tell them how they are doing. I feel like I am being asked to take time to do their quality control person's job. At least until I need feedback on my products and need to ask you to help me out.

I'm venturing out into new territory with all the items we have been making to sell on the weekends and I would love to know what you think of them. No pressure but if you have a minute and want to help me with my business, please reply to this email and let me know what you thought of these:

Ceviche

Coquille St. Jacques

Swordfish skewers

Shrimp skewers

Mahi tacos

Salmon Burgers (this Saturday)

Thanks for doing this. It will help me run my business but it will also help you if I know what you enjoy.

Crabcakes: Regular and Gluten Free

While we are offering our regular crab cakes in our seafood cases daily, we are working to keep a good stock of both the regular and gluten-free in our freezer. If you are taking home crab cakes to freeze, why not go ahead and pick up the already frozen ones? It will save you time and energy. And also, they are very good frozen.

Skinner Native Blanc, 2022 - $23.39

Rescue, CA - Sierra Foothills

67% Viognier / 33% Vermentino

TASTING NOTES: Native Blanc is a very unique and enjoyable wine. This Rhone blend is made for the senses. Bottled in flint to show the purity of slight greens and soft yellow, Native Blanc captures the nose, delights the mouth with apricot and lemongrass and ends just before a velvety sweetness catches, leaving questions.

Mouthwatering with a flirty flare, this heritage blend can be your food’s best friend, or simply a way to cool down on a hot summer's evening or a day by the pool.

Terre Rouge Les Cotes de L'Ouest Syrah, 2018 - $ 27.79

Plymouth, CA - Sierra Foothills

Wine Enthusiast Rating - 93

This dense, concentrated and firmly tannic wine offers pure fruit flavors without a lot of obvious oak spices, so it delivers blackberries, blueberries and dark chocolate from first whiff to lingering finish. While delicious, it's also rather tight in texture and will certainly improve through 2028. Jim Gordon

Enfield Pretty Horses Red, 2022 - $ 31.99

North Coast AVA and Lodi,CA

60% Tempranillo, 27% Garnacha, and 13% Graciano -  50% Whole Cluster.

12.9% alc. - 450 cs producedA familiar face with a new ingredient. In 2022 we added a parcel of 30 year old Tempranillo vines from the historic Kirschenmann property in Lodi. They dial up the juiciness and make this Pretty Horses our most delicious and approachable right out of the gate. This remains our most gastronomic wine and will elevate a humble meal.

Deep cherry & cocoa, salted licorice, sumac, roasted chestnut, gorgeously exotic spice, juicy palate and a finish that will have you salivating for food.

This Week's Special

SWORDFISH

$11.95/6 oz.

Try this recipe for a delicious swordfish preparation.

Hamachi!

I bought something special for my sushi loving friends for this weekend. It's a Hamachi onsui fillet. Onsui fillet means that it has undergone a process where 99% of the blood is removed from the fish so it is very clean with no fishy flavor. The fish is then flash frozen before rigor mortis so that the texture remains very tender. I'm thawing it today (Friday) so it will be ready for your sushi dinner tomorrow.

And Finally,

And Finally,

I found this in my shopping cart at Lowe's yesterday.

Yes it is possible that Carlos Plumbing accidentally dropped their card while picking up plumbing supplies at Lowe's, but my guess is that if I had looked in the other carts I would have found a card in them too. I call this guerilla marketing and I know all about it. When I first started selling fish I tried to think of different ways to market my business. Most were terrible ideas like renting a fish costume and standing out on busy Medlock Bridge Road. Maybe a good idea but I just didn't have the nerve. Two that I thought might be good ones were:

Leaving my business card in every single cookbook at Barnes & Noble at the Forum (hence the connection with the plumbers card in the shopping cart.)

"Accidentally" turning loose a bunch of Kathleen's Catch balloons in front of the Publix seafood department across from my store in Johns Creek. The ceilings in the grocery store are so high that it would take quite a while to get them down. Meanwhile all the Publix seafood shoppers would get to know about me.

I did the first one. But the balloon idea involved balloons we used to tie on a tent in front of my store for a parking lot event. Since Publix graciously filled them with helium for me, I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I guess it's all about karma because these days even people like Smilin' Mark McKay from WSB traffic are doing my Instagram marketing for me. (He did - really!)

Thanks for all my birthday wishes. I love you too. Blessings, Kathleen
