Steelhead Special, Rock Shrimp and Tacos are Back!

  • Jul 25
  • 4 min read

Hey Y'all,

Saturday on our grill:

Tacos are Back!

Mahi tacos topped with chipotle crema and fresh pico de gallo accompanied with Cilantro Lime Rice, our best selling Baja Beans and fresh Cole Slaw.

Pineapple Ponzu Swordfish Skewers. $10.95 each. If you would like to take some home to cook later, call us and we will put some together for you that are not already cooked.

We grill from 11:00-2:00 and can package any of this to cook at home.

Argentina Red Shrimp Ceviche

We are sticking with this ceviche this weekend because it seems to us to be the most authentic. We use the Argentina Red Shrimp, jalapeno, red onion, cilantro and cucumber marinated in bright citrus juices. A simple summertime treat.

Free Wine Tasting - Join us Saturday 3:00-5:00

Rapaura Springs Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, 2025    - $28.79

Marlborough, New Zealand

Wine Enthusiast - 92

With all the feistiness you’ve come to know and love from Marlborough Savvy B, this explodes with aromas of passion fruit, lime, lemongrass, jalapeño and bell pepper. There’s a lovely textural element on the palate that nicely pads out the zippy acidity, taking this up a notch in quality, just as a good reserve-level wine should. Best Buy.

Wine Spectator - 92

This white is bursting with notes of ruby grapefruit, guava and pear, accented by tangerine, lemon blossoms, crunchy sea salt, fresh basil and lemon oregano. Offers appealing plumpness, ending with a long, expressive finish.

Vincent Wengier Bourgogne Aligote, 2023 - $ 25.99

100% Aligote

Northern Burgundy, France

Decanter awarded 92 points for the 2023 vintage, praising its ability to balance acidity and ripeness for a northern Burgundy Aligoté.

The 2023 Domaine Vincent Wengier Bourgogne Aligoté is a refined, mineral-forward white that showcases Aligoté’s potential in Burgundy’s northern chalk soils, offering a refreshing, aromatic profile with a distinctive saline edge. It’s best enjoyed young, within 2–3 years of release GRAPE.

Ringbolt Cabernet Sauvignon- Margaret River, 2021 - $27.79

Western Australia

Wine Spectator - 92

A bold crimson red in color with magenta hues. The nose has rich aromas of violets, black cherries and mulberries with hints of cassis and forest-floor characters. The wine opens with the pretty floral characters of the nose and a rich blackberry edge before progressing to the mocha oak mid palate and finishing with succulent tannins that continue the experience long after the wine has left your mouth.

This Week's Special

STEELHEAD TROUT

$10.95/6 oz.

Steelhead vs. Salmon What's the Difference?

Steelhead and salmon are cousins but they are not the same fish.

In terms of flavor, steelhead is generally milder than most salmons.

In terms of health, if you are looking for heart healthy, choose salmon for the Omega-3s. If you are going for weight-loss, choose steelhead for lower calories and lower fat. But keep in mind that the differences are slight. The better decision is to choose what you love to eat so that dieting and healthy eating is fun and easy.

What's a Steelhead Anyway?

Believe it or not, steelhead is a rainbow trout. They don't look the same or taste the same because steelhead lives its life migrating between fresh and salt water. As with rainbow trout, all steelhead sold in the United States is farm raised because it is illegal in the United States to sell wild trout. Our steelhead is raised in the fjords of Norway where the water is very clean, fast moving and cold.

Rock Shrimp

Back by popular demand, rock shrimp is in the store this weekend. It's lobster like flavor will surprise you! Rock shrimp has a sweet flavor and a firm texture. They look mushy when raw, but firm up to a nicely satisfying snap-when-you-bite experience. Pay attention when cooking them because they are done in 1-2 minutes. As with all shrimp, as soon as they reach C they are done. If they reach O they are overcooked. Get it?

And Finally,

I thought I made up a new word this week but turns out it is just a new-to-me word. Slumpy. The end of July is slumpy. Summertime heat is not so much appreciated anymore. It's either raining, raining, raining or hot, hot, hot. I'm afraid of my backyard because of the carnivorous mosquito swarms. I'm worried about my dogs' paws burning so I don't walk them in the heat. There is a reason why what I call Cranky Crime goes up in the summer. People are, well, cranky.

What am I doing about this slumpy crankiness? Cool lunches of healthy and delicious ceviche. Low calorie, light dinners of grilled seafood (it cooks fast so you can get in and out of the heat in no time!) Lighter refreshing wines such as Cap Fizz, my favorite beach wine or a Sauvignon Blanc with all the cool flavors of summer in a bottle. A little ice in my coffee does the trick when I need an extra caffeine boost mid-afternoon and yoga under a ceiling fan works for slumpy summer exercise.

Come see me this weekend and let's talk about all your ideas to combat your summer slump.

Stay cool, stay dry and eat well.

Blessings,

Kathleen
