King Salmon, Moreish Wine and a Bookmark

Hey Y'all,

Thanks to all of you who faithfully read my email every week. The list of people who receive this email has grown to the point that I can happily say we have exceeded the number of recipients I had before I closed two stores and lost many email subscribers. This is great news but I need another favor:

After you share this email with ALL your friends, could you please consider following me on Facebook? Some special people in my life who make wonderful posts on the Kathleen's Catch Brookhaven page believe that I should be a social media influencer. I should be reaching many more people with my message of healthy eating, good humor, kindness and delicious seafood. Just think, we could change the world!

My current followers number 641. In real life, to have 641 friends would knock my socks off. But in the world of influencers, I am rather pitiful. Almost 10,000 people receive my weekly email which thrills me beyond belief. (I try not to think about that too much because it makes me nervous). If these 10,000 people would follow me on Facebook I would be on my influencing way.

Free Wine Tasting - Join us Saturday 3:00-5:00

This week we are tasting three nice French selections for summer sipping. All are great with fish, salads, fish, cheese and fish.

Haut Lavigne Cotes de Duras Blanc, 2024 - $ 23.99

60% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillon

From the winemaker - This wine finds its place as an aperitif, accompanies raw vegetable salads, grilled white meats, fresh goat's cheese and of course shellfish and fish. In this vintage, the nose is powerful, with notes of yellow fruits, complex and a round and fruity finish on a refreshing palate.

Mary Taylor Anjou Blanc - $18.49

100% Chenin Blanc

In Anjou, the 2024 vintage was marked by a cool and rainy climate, creating conditions that favored a slow and balanced ripening. Despite a wet spring that required careful vineyard management, the mild summer helped preserve beautiful acidity and clear aromatic expression. The harvest, slightly later than usual, was carried out with precision, yielding fresh and well-defined grapes. It is a vintage of elegance and finesse, where the skill of the winemaker fully showcased the potential of Anjou’s terroirs.

This wine is dry and fruity with refreshing vibrancy. The palate is well balanced, offering a subtle full-bodied texture that brings roundness, beautifully offset by lively, lingering acidity. The finish is long, clean and harmonious, highlighting the elegance and precision of this cuvée.

Jean-Francois Merieau Gamay, 2023 - $29.98

Loire Valley, France

Tasting Note: On the nose, ripe fruits aromas - black raspberry liqueur and blackberry jam. On the palate, the wine is mouth-filling, delivering wave after wave of pure red-fruit character - ripe cherry, raspberry. The finish is bright, refreshing and irresistibly moreish. A fruity and easy-drinking wine.Enjoy slightly chilled. This wine benefits from being decanted into a carafe.

Editor's note: We had to look up "moreish." Basically it is British slang meaning to leave you wanting more.

This Week's Special

Speaking of moreish, our special is

WILD KING SALMON

$42.95/lb.

You will definitely want more of this salmon at this price.

Why King Salmon?

For your health: Omega-3 levels in King salmon are among the very highest of any fish. It is very good for you.

For your grilling peace of mind: King salmon is sooo easy on the grill. It's high fat content makes it very forgiving; it sticks less and is difficult to overcook.

For your taste buds: King salmon is rich and buttery, yet with a firm texture. It melts in your mouth.

For your imagination: King salmon swim thousands of miles in their lifetime, building up muscle and weight. They dive deeper than any other salmon to hunt their food and they can leap into the air up to 12' while swimming up river. They are one of the strongest and most athletic fish in the sea. Every bite of this amazing fish represents thousands of miles of swimming and a lifetime of physical conditioning.

There is a reason it is called The King.

And Finally,

A customer loaned me a book and did not leave me any contact information to allow me to return it. The Race of the Century: The Heroic True Story of the 1908 New York to Paris Auto Race, was a fun read while traveling to and from Montana on vacation.

Finally I was able to return it after discovering an Ace Hardware coupon with the owner's sister's contact info. This led to a funny conversation about the kinds of things we readers use for bookmarks. In the past I have used various things within reach to mark my place in a book: mail, other books, tissues (hopefully clean), dog leash, wine glass (hopefully empty), gum wrapper, reading glasses, newspaper, tv remote, nothing (dang I fell asleep reading)...  I own many beautiful bookmarks that are never around when I need them.

What's the most unusual bookmark you have ever used?

Blessings,

Kathleen
