Hey Y'all, Happy Birthday America! Looking good for 250!
We will be grilling this Saturday from 11:00 to 3:00. In the interest of my professional reputation I must tell you that Bryan, our grillmaster, has volunteered to prepare tacos outside this weekend. He scoffs at my "grandmotherly" concern🙄.
Once again, I would be forever in your debt if you would consider following me on social media. You can click here to find my pages: |
Free Wine Tasting - Join us Saturday 3:00-5:00
In September of 2016, Rob Stuart, gave Kathleen and me a personal tour of his winery, R.Stuart & Co. We spent a couple of hours at the winery in McMinnville, OR learning his processes and tasting wines out of the barrels, and as we were leaving, he gave us a "dusty" old bottle of Pinot Noir from his office. It was an experience to remember!
We've been fortunate enough to continue to see him here when he's in town. He often stays with our friend when visiting, doing wine dinners, or supporting the annual wine auction for the High Museum of Art and it's educational programs. Rob helped our friend find a vineyard called Daffodil Hill in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in the Willamette Valley. We offer the excellent Pinot Noir that is the result of that collaboration. He visited us here at the store last year, and of course we drank wine and talked about wine. I soaked up everything I could (wine and wine education) and just enjoyed the company of one the genuinely nicest people I've ever met!
Below are three of his wines we're pouring this weekend:

This all-American fish is just the thing for your 4th of July grill. Since they are butterflied and boneless, the process is simple:
Pat it dry and score the skin.
Brush it inside and out with olive oil and then sprinkle it with salt and pepper.
Stuff the fish with lemon slices and any herbs you have available. (You are welcome to grab some from my pots outside. Scissors are hanging by the door.)
Preheat the grill to medium high.
Spray the grill grates and the fish with nonstick spray.
Place fish on the grill and close the lid.
Cook 5-6 minutes per side aiming for 145 degrees. The flesh should be opaque and flaky.
This weekend we are filling our cases with as much American seafood as we can find

And Finally, George Washington called it Our last great experiment for promoting human happiness. Since it's our birthday, for this weekend, you have permission to celebrate the success of the experiment without dwelling on our many glaring faults and divisive issues. For all of my life, which began in the early 1960s, many people felt certain that we were headed for disaster. Because I am more comfortable thinking in terms of history instead of current events, I can never be sure that we are not currently destroying the vision of the Founding Fathers. However, looking backwards it seems that in each decade of my life the naysayers turned out to be overly worried.
I pledge to myself this weekend to consider the greatness of America and all the worldwide good that has come about since England lost the war. And I'll be humming the hook from this. (If you are the only person left on the planet who does not know this song from Hamilton, you need to catch up.) ![]() You'll Be Back - Hamilton (Original Cast 2016 - Live) [HD] From Hamilton on Disney+ - All rights go to The Walt Disney Company!
