Give Corvina a Chance
Corvina is often relegated to the discount freezer. Why doesn't it sell? The only reason I can think of is that people are unfamiliar with it. When someone from South/Central America approaches the case and spots corvina they snatch it up right away.
Mild, slightly sweet and firm large-flaked meat. Does this sound famliar? That's because corvina is a great substitute for red snapper and grouper, and at a moderate price too!
Corvina is its Spanish and Portuguese name. Weakfish or sea trout is its name in English. It comes from Suriname, the smallest country in South America,
Next time you are in, give corvina a chance.
Weekend Special - Halibut!
Everyone is asking for halibut!
Pacific halibut season is winding up as fishers meet their annual quotas and fish swim out into deep waters to spawn. Season closings vary by state but for the most part, fishing winds up in November. This is to say, get it while you can. It should be arriving in our stores Friday afternoon and will be available this weekend while supplies last.
Fresh Wild Georgia Shrimp is in!
We returned last night with a truck load of fresh wild Georgia shrimp. Most of it is pre-ordered but we brought back a little extra for you procrastinators. Get here early if you want some.
And speaking of shrimp, here are a couple of mouthwatering photos Robyn sent me. She stopped by a few weeks ago to make a plan for a dinner party and as luck would have it, we had marinated sable available. She added her personal touch to the meal by topping each piece with our wild Georgia shrimp. What a great idea!

Other fin mail we got this week came from Sonya who claims this wine to be an excellent choice to go with our crabcakes and her wild rice medley and green beans. Sounds awfully good to me!

Join Us for our Free Wine Tasting Saturdays from 3:00-5:00
This Saturday at our tasting, we're featuring three excellent wines that are also great values from The Nick Goldschmidt family winery in Sonoma, CA.
Goldschmidt Vineyards, Dry Creek 'Chelsea' Merlot, 2023 - $23.99
Alexander Valley, Sonoma, CA
Wine Spectator - 92 points / Wine Enthusiast - 91 points
Tasting Note: This vintage is characterized for an amazing bright ruby color; deep aromas of black currant and blueberries intertwined with delicate notes of vanilla and dark chocolate. The mouth shows a delicate and complex symphony of soft and round tannins, along with velvety layers of dark fruit, soft spices and oak. The finish is elegant and very long, reminding us what a well-crafted Merlot can offer.
Goldschmidt Vineyards, Katherine Cabernet Sauvignon, 2023 - $26.99
Stonemason Hill Vineyard
Alexander Valley- Sonoma, CA
Wine Enthusiast - 92
This luxurious Cabernet delivers focused aromas of raspberry coulis, black plum compote, fresh herb mélange and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate delivers age worthy tannin and balancing acidity, with flavors of crushed Bing cherries, mint, cinnamon and purple flowers that linger along the richly textured finish. Great value here. — Tom R. Capo
Goldschmidt Singing Tree Chardonnay, 2024 - $21.79
Russian River Valley, Sonoma, CA
Wilfred Wong of Wine.com - 92
The 2024 Goldschmidt Vineyards Singing Tree Chardonnay is a light straw color, offering aromas of ripe stone fruits, fresh peach skin, and a gentle touch of citrus blossom. On the palate, it unfolds with layers of white nectarine and subtle minerality, framed by a vibrant texture and graceful acidity. The lively, persistent finish makes it an excellent match with grilled, panko-crusted English sole. (ed: Or petrale sole, halibut, Chilean Sea Bass)

And Finally, Last Saturday evening I went to a retirement party for my nephew. (It's hard to imagine I have a retired nephew.) This wasn't just any old retirement party. It was to honor 20 years of service in the United States Marine Corp. Patrick Skehan was one of the first grandchildren in our family and he was scrappy and loud and almost out of control for a good deal of his early childhood. If you have a kid like that take heart. Because Patrick channeled all that energy into becoming a Lieutenant Colonel. Here he is at the retirement ceremony, because apparently in the Marines you can't just grab a beer and plop down in a lounge chair when you retire. There is ceremony, lots of ceremony. | ![]() |
One of the most overlooked things about a life devoted to service to our country is the family in the wings. Patrick has an amazing (truly) wife, Jenny, and two teenaged children who have lived their entire lives traveling from place to place. Can you imagine being a teenager and starting over time after time? Can you imagine your husband away for very long periods of time, especially in places like Ramahi, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom? Here they are last year: Patrick, Jenny, Kelly and Norah. Four reasons we should be very proud of all of those who have committed to defending our country.

Have a good weekend.
Blessings, Kathleen
P.S. Happy 6th birthday to the greatest Front of the Store Supervisor in Catch history.
