Hey Y'all,

Happening Saturday

Salmon burgers sold out last Saturday! If you missed them, try again this Saturday between 11:00 and 3:00. Grilled salmon burgers are served with our Honey Lemon Cole Slaw for $10.95.

Feedback

Thank you for the feedback! Here are some of the responses we got:

From Kathy:

This weekend was my first 'cookout' weekend and it was delicious.  The salmon burgers and slaw were perfect.   I picked up three for my family.  Your grill master was so efficient and talented with the cooking and plating of the meals and was unflappable with the waiting crowd.  You have a gem there!!

Speaking of unflappable gems, here's Bryan with me and Smilin' Mark McKay of WSB Triple Team Traffic. Mark stopped by last weekend for a salmon burger to enjoy before his shift at WSB.

From Allison:

The Coquille St. Jacque was fabulous last weekend and this is the grouper with sweet corn and tomato risotto and arugula salad!!

Ed: Hint - you might find a few of these scallop preparations in my freezer case this weekend!

Thanks to everyone else who sent me their favorites. I appreciate all your opinions and the time you took to send me them.

Join Us for a Free Wine Tasting every Saturday from 3:00-5:00

For our tasting this weekend we are introducting a new wine, dropping the price on a favorite Oregon Pinot and taking another look at a highly rated New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. First the new wine:

Sylvia Wimmer, Gruner Veltliner, 2020 - $18.99

Austria - Weinviertel Appellation

In color - a light yellow with green reflections

In the nose - apples with a fine-peppery underlay

On the palate - juicy taste of stone fruit

In the finish - delicate pepper with medium length

The Price Drop!

Sineann, Yates Conwill Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2022 - $39.95 (15% off)

Yamhill-Carlton District, Willamette Valley, OR

James Suckling - noting red berries, cocoa powder, dusty notes, medium body, crunchy texture, vivid energy, firm tannins, and a chalky aftertaste. He recommended drinking now or holding (reviewed in 2024).

Why the price drop? We believe that this wine doesn't sell as well because it has a screw cap. It's possible that people prefer the cork for cellaring. It's also possible that a screw cap just doesn't make the same impression on guests as popping a cork. In any case, take advantage of this and buy some really great wine at a great price.

The Yates-Conwill vineyard, planted by Steve and Kathy Conwill in 1998, is separated by a fence on the same hillside (!) as the famed Resonance Vineyard in the Yamhill Carlton district. We love Peter Rosback's wines and you will too.

Rapaura Springs Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, 2025 - $28.79

Marlborough, New Zealand

This wine has higher ratings (below) and is 30% cheaper than one of our best top of the line Sauvignon Blancs! We loved it and it should remain readily available going forward. We sold out at the last tasting.

Wine Enthusiast - 92

With all the feistiness you’ve come to know and love from Marlborough Savvy B, this explodes with aromas of passion fruit, lime, lemongrass, jalapeño and bell pepper. There’s a lovely textural element on the palate that nicely pads out the zippy acidity, taking this up a notch in quality, just as a good reserve-level wine should. Best Buy.

Wine Spectator - 92

This white is bursting with notes of ruby grapefruit, guava and pear, accented by tangerine, lemon blossoms, crunchy sea salt, fresh basil and lemon oregano. Offers appealing plumpness, ending with a long, expressive finish.

This Week's Special

MAHI

$19.95/6 oz.

Here's a fun tidbit about mahi that you might know if you have ever caught a mahi:

Mahi are one of the brightest colored fish in the ocean. Their coloring is tied to their nervous system, so as they are being caught they change to a bright iridescent color which fades after they are landed.

In the sea:

Just out of the water:

Mahi is one of the best fish on the grill because it doesn't fall apart! It's our favorite fish for tacos and its mild sweet flavor holds up to all kinds of sauces. HOWEVER, here's the best way to eat mahi:

Horseradish Crusted Mahi with Creamed Spinach & Mushrooms

One of our "Catch to Go" oven-ready meals, sold frozen. Home made without the home work.

$14.99

Onaga Snapper!

You can thank me later for this remarkable fish. Fresh from Louisiana!

Onaga Snapper

Onaga is one of the best snappers in the world.  It is used as both sashimi and cooked.  Raw Onaga has beautiful pink flesh with a creamy texture and mild...

$42.99

Other fabulous fish this weekend are

  • Triggerfish from Rhode Island. It's okay if you don't buy this because I will keep it all for myself. This is one of my favorite fish. Sweet crablike flavor. It's sweet, mild and delicious. Really.

  • Wahoo (Ono) from Tahiti - texture of mahi, flavor of the mildest tuna. Very lean.

  • Skatewing - flavor like scallops. Mild and sweet.

  • Icelandic haddock. If you like cod, you will LOVE this fish. It is clean, light and not fishy at all. It is sweeter than cod and works perfectly in all cod preparations.

The future of the Catch:

This lovely is my granddaughter, Keira. She has a bright future in the grocery business and will be taking over restocking and organizational tasks in the front of the store just as soon as she finishes kindergarten. She is one smart girl.

I hope you get to spend your weekend with someone lovely. If not, you can always come by the store and spend it with me.

Blessings, Kathleen
